Hot melt adhesives are popular because of their fast setting speed, relatively low cost (materials and processing), and low environmental impact. Primary hot melt applications are high-speed applications such as packaging, attaching labels and wood veneer, bookbinding, and textiles.

 

EVA is the most popular polymer due to their high versatility and availability. Broad formulating latitude for many different applications and adhesion to a wide variety of substrates. Ethylene vinyl acetate (also known as EVA) is the copolymer (mixture) of ethylene and vinyl acetate

 

Hot Melts are comprised of the following items

Polymer, Tackifying Resins, Diluents/Plasticizer, Wax & Antioxidants.

  • Polymers control Strength, flexibility, Heat resistance, Shear and impact resistance
  • Tackifying resin controls wetting, adhesion and tack
  • Diluents/Plasticizers control flow, viscosity and open time
  • Wax controls set speed heat resistance
  • Antioxidants control; viscosity changes and color.

Softening and solidification over wide temperature range

 

Heat resistance up to 100 °C
